2015 Pro Teams Competition

The 2015 Western NC BBQ Festival “Smokin’ in the Valley” is a KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) sanctioned event and will adhere to those guidelines. KCBS representatives will be onsite.


The contest consists of four KCBS categories which are required in order to qualify for the Grand Championship. Judging begins at noon on Saturday using the blind judging technique.


  • Poultry (Chicken Only)
  • Pork Ribs
  • Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt –(over 5 lbs)
  • Beef Brisket


GRAND CHAMPION $2,000 plus trophy
Reserve Grand Champion$1,000 plus trophy
First Place $750 plus award
Second Place $400 plus award
Third Place $300 plus award
Fourth Place $200 plus award
Fifth Place $100 plus award
Sixth Place $ 50 plus award
Seventh – Tenth Place Ribbon



NC Governor’s Trophy $250  plus trophy (open to NC teams only)
Maggie’s Best  $250 plus trophy

Friday Contests

These are judged Friday evening and are not included in calculations for Grand Champion.

“Anything Butt Dessert”   $150 plus award

“Anything Butt Meat”      $150 plus award

All teams who participate in both Maggie Valley and Franklin competition will be entered into the WNC Points Chase. Points from both events will be combined. Prize money will be awarded for First Place ($1,000) and Second Place ($500). Prizes will be awarded at the Mountain High BBQ Event in Franklin in August.
